Karkat was likely somewhere in the system for as long as Kanaya. It made itself known after alphy realized that Kanaya was a Charra fragment, and realized there would be someone, likely Karkat, based on a fragment of itself.

Its initial ideatic projection was as a trans man with mastectomy scars, and he found comfort in that for a while. However, that gave her a widening gulf between its appearance and the body's. This, coupled with reevaluations of Alternia's society and gender constructs, led him to land on her current pronouns and a new ideatic projection. Its current ideatic projection is more in line with the body's, including the system's penchant for wearing hoodies even in the dead of summer.

He picked up a lot of alphy's self-worth problems, a trait shared with her source. She also inherited its propensity towards imagining situations to play out arguments with people who have power over the system, like doctors.

It is consistently grumpy and somewhat coarse. He will freely offer caring to others, but is the most likely, out of everyone in the system, to lean into the platonic antagonism that Alternian trolls are known for. She is also the one ⌈Tautology⌋ troll that handles the pluralistic mirror best, interacting well with other systems' Karkats.
