⌈Tautology⌋ /tɔˈtɑl.ə.d͡ʒi/

⌈Tautology⌋ is an orbital median system with the Fionna subsystem at its core. The system took its name from the Los Campesinos! song "What Death Leaves Behind", off of their album NO BLUES. alphy first realized it was a system in late 2019, when Charra first made an appearance, and consistent self-actualization has led to the system's stabilization, growth, and the awakening of Phillip, its former cohost from before it split.

Jade took over as temporary host in late September 2022, following an encounter between alphy and its persecutor. After being left to feel like it shouldn't exist, Jade coalesced and took up the mantle of host, to help alphy recover from the encounter and decades of prior trauma, and to remind it that it doesn't deserve to disappear. Around the same time, Terezi's role as system manager and Vriska's role as gatekeeper were formalized. After a month of trauma flashbacks and processing, alphy stepped back into the role of host. In early 2023, June and her subsystem took over as gatekeepers, and Sestro and Hamifi took over as system managers.

The system has continuous consciousness. Switching is more akin to passing a controller from one player to another without being able to pause the game. Dissociation is very infrequent, and is primarily a sign of distress above all else. This can, however, lead to emotional bleedover, where a feeling passes onto the next fronter, as well as the prior headmate not entirely giving up front.

Memories are shared system-wide, and any holes in memory affect all system members. The headmate that generated the memory will often have the strongest emotional attachment to the events in that memory, but that attachment can be shared with others. Other emotions used to not be shared, but emotions and feelings about other people, places, and things have begun to share and smear. Overall, the entire system generally shares affection for the same people, places, things, and activities that the Fionna subsystem does. If alphy likes something, the rest of the system most likely will.

The system views and interacts with reality as a narrative. By and large, this has no ill effects day-to-day, but there are occasions where fictives in the system experience intense first-person flashbacks to trauma they experienced in-source. alphy's persecutor exists outside the narrative, and June's ability to operate both inside and outside of the narrative makes her a threat to them. Since she and her subsystem showed up in ⌈Tautology⌋, the persecutor has largely been quiet.
